Writing tip of the week

Here’s a handy rule of thumb to use when you’re writing an essay or assignment:

The first sentence of each paragraph should make a point in your argument – and that point must be directly related to the essay question. Use the rest of the paragraph to give the evidence and examples that back up your point.

You should be able to follow the shape of your argument through the whole essay just by reading the first sentence of each paragraph.
